The Principle of Blessing and Cursing
Dr. Richard Shropshire - The Barnabas Connection
The Bible is very clear concerning the power of the spoken word: we have the ability to bless or curse another person by the tone and content of our speech.
To bless: the speaking of something positive into a person's life - not only benefits one emotionally, but also releases a powerful positive spiritual force in his direction:
"You're bright; you have a great work ethic; there's nothing you won't be able to accomplish if you apply yourself" - not only encourages one psychologically, it also releases that which does spiritual good as well.
To curse: the speaking of something negative into a person's life that is not only detrimental to one's emotional well-being, but that also release a powerful negative spiritual force in his direction.
You're ugly; you're dumb; you're good-for-nothing; and you'll never amount to anything" - not only does psychological damage to the person; but also releases that which will do spiritual harm as well.
We live, in our culture, in an atmosphere of criticism: in an atmosphere of curse. Begin to reverse that process: there is no more powerful way to bless someone than to speak to him or her what God says through His Word: the Bible. Begin to allow God to bless you by speaking His Word into your life; and bless others by doing the same for them.
